Warhol at the Whitney

If you find yourself with nothing to do on a Friday night or are saving but still wanna have a night out, head to the Whitney Museum in the West Village.  On Friday nights from 7pm to 9:30pm the museum is Pay-What-You-Wish, so, if you can only squeeze out $1 to pay on your budget then that'll be your ticket in.  These tickets are not sold online and I'd recommend getting to the museum a little earlier than that to snag a decent spot on line especially in the cold of winter.  I was able to get a semi-decent spot on line at around 6:40pm.  Currently the museum holds an exhibition on Andy Warhol called "Andy Warhol From A to B and Back Again".  Andy Warhol was one America's most iconic artists.  He changed the way the world viewed fame, the celebrity and the artist.  This exhibition is located on the 5th, 3rd, and 1st floors, the 5th being the primary floor for his pieces, while the 3rd floor is a stopover with a few of his pieces & videos, and finally the 1st floor is his portrait gallery. While I could post every single photo that I took from that night, I think that would be wayyy too many photos for one post (and what's the fun if I post every single piece here).

The Fifth Floor:

To start off the night, my friend and I decided that it would be best to start at the 5th floor and work our way down which is probably your best bet.  This floor holds over 350 pieces from Warhol throughout the decades, as minimal as scrap drawings to his more notable pieces.  You'll be able to his soup pieces, the flowers, the skulls, and some different portraits such as Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor.

The Third Floor:

Rather than being a large floor with many pieces, the third floor is an inbetween floor if you'd call it that.  The third floor is essentially a hallway of a few videos of Andy Warhol himself (where you can listen in on with the provided headphones), and his pieces that play on advertisements.  So if you're a little tired after the fifth floor have a seat and watch some short videos.

The First Floor:

The pièce de résistance, was the portrait gallery.  There is a room right next to the elevators which holds about 65 portraits that Warhol created between 1968 and 1987.  It is truly a sight to see.  Below is the entire room, can you make out which celebrities are featured here?

Overall, the Whitney did a great job in collecting many of Warhol's notable pieces and setting them up in a smooth transitional manner.  If you want to see Warhol's pieces in the flesh head down to the Whitney Museum in the West Village and make a night of it!  The exhibition is going on until March 31st, 2019 ~ so that means you have 8 opportunities to take advantage of the pay what you wish offer for this exhibit.
